Choice of Tension
Advanced and professional players use higher tension as this enhances the touch, power and control during play. However, a high tension creates smaller sweet spot which is an area on the string bed that provides the best combination of power, control, and minimal vibration upon contact with the shuttlecock. Therefore, you need to have a good technique, precise timing and generate fast swings to aim for the sweet spot. While higer tension creates stiffness on the racket feel, the advance player prefer its benefit with the consistency and reduce variability on the of shuttlecock behavior upon each contact. Tension ranging from 27lbs to 34lbs is best suitable for this type of player.
Players at a club level will have a disadvantage for high tension as this offers less margin for error. When you slightly hit off-center (mis-hit), then the shot quality significantly drops and can lead to frequent broken strings. Higher tension are tighter which reduces the rebound effects that generate power. Hence, a club player might not have the strength/technique to consistently generate enough force leading to a weaker shots and possible risk of injury. Tension ranging 24-26lbs is typically ideal for club players as this has the balance of both power and control.
Beginners are recommended to use tension 24 lbs or below.
